Hailing from the land of The Sopranos, the best pizza in the tri-state (don’t @ me, NYC), and the most vociferous Twitter account, I’m a first-gen Filipina-American from Jersey. Driven by a desire to see my neurotic and accidentally hilarious family on screen, I aim to bring to life the moments that once made me sink into my seat.
Growing up during AOL’s heyday, I’ve always advocated for my younger self—the voracious story reader and movie/TV watcher, who role-played as her favorite celebrities on LiveJournal and plastered her inner life on Xanga. This passion for storytelling led me to pursue visual communications in college. After years of working as a designer, I moved to LA to pursue writing getting my MFA. As a side job, I started to nanny within the industry, where I connected with creative families and witnessed firsthand how stories shape lives. Eventually, it brought me to teaching and mentoring at Young Storytellers, where I help kids find their voices and craft their own screenplays.
In my work, I champion the accurate representation of Asian-American women, explore psychotherapy, and delve into the complexities of intergenerational trauma within a Diasporic context and Millennial relationships—always with a guttural laugh along the way.
Everything I do is for my dad—he encouraged me to feel my feelings and, most importantly, to express them, whatever form they take.
